The oldest club on Costa del Sol is Real Club de Campo de Malaga, "the Parador course", inaugurated 1925. It took nearly 35 years for the next golf course to be completed, namely the first course of Guadalmina which joined the Spanish Golf Federation in 1959. Until the mid 1970´s play took place on this course similar to todays South course. A new 18-hole course, partly taking holes from the original course, joined the Spanish Federation in 1972 and became known as the North Course or "Campo Norte". This new course consisted then of 11 new holes and 7 holes from the old South Course (the 7 holes north of the "carretera). The holes south of the "carretera" remained an 11-hole-course attached to Guadalmina Hotel until, in the mid 1980´s, the new North Course was ready and the 7 holes which formed part of the old North Course were returned to make the existing South Course. Guadalmina then had two 18-holes-courses. In 1988 holes 6 and 7, North, were exchanged for new ones due to the creation of San Pedro Golf Club´s driving range. Minor changes were also made 1995 on SUR making hole nr 2 the first and hole nr 1 the eighteeth. 1996 the hole sequence near the hotel was altered. After that Guadalmina both courses are as we now them today. In 1992 Guadalmina became the biggest golf establishment on Costa del Sol by constructing a 9-hole-par-3 course. The architect of the first course was Javier Arana and for the North Course Folco Nardi who, up until his death, lived in the villa at the 4th tee on SUR.
